Dragonlance Shadow of the Dragon Queen AMA

Both.

Having both good Stats, is better than only one good Stat.

She wasnt a cleric till the staff was broken, and after that we dont see much of her in the books.

Evoker. He frequently got tired from (necrotic damage from upcasting spells).

He did like his Fireballs and Magic Missiles.

Swashbuckler. Explains the high Charisma.
Solid points with Raistlin and Goldmoon (it always bugged me how she got shuffled off-stage after the first book and Elistan took her place), but I'll fight you on the rest. ;)

I'm sure someone will. I'm equally sure that everyone will disagree about how it should be done.

Is Riverwind a barbarian or a ranger? Does he still have a ludicrous Str and use a shortbow regardless?
He was statted as a ranger in DL1. He didn't have any spells because this was 1st edition, and he wasn't high enough level. He never does anything resembling barbarian rage anyway. I remember him using a spear more than a bow, but many of the HotL used mechanically sub-optimal gear.
Tanis is statted up to be a 'balanced' fighter, with 16s in both Str and Dex, rather than a big beefy colossus like Caramon. But in 5th ed, if you're going to be an effective fighter, you've kinda gotta choose either Str or Dex and run with it.
Dex fighter would probably be the best fit in 5e, but when these characters where created rolled stats where the norm so a degree of randomness in stats was expected.
If Goldmoon doesn't get an attack cantrip, what does she do in combat, but if she does, why didn't we ever see her use it in the books?
Obviously she doesn't, because cantrips did not exist in 1st edition, and when the books where written. But first edition clerics where not so far behind fighters in whacking things with weapons. But in DL1 it was suggested that Goldmoon and Riverwind where both controlled by the same player.
What specialisation is Raistlin
Generalist, since the only specialist Magic User in 1st edition was Illusionist, and he wasn't one of those. War Wizard (XG) would be quite a good fit in 5e.
, and what subclass is Tika?
Thief, since she is clearly not an assassin, and there were no other flavours of rogue at the time.

Tales and Chronicles

Jewel of the North, formerly know as vincegetorix
Stating them up, 5e-wise, I'd do something a little funky like this:

Sturm: Cavalier Fighter, Knight of Solamnia
Tanis: Battlemaster Fighter, Custom BG: Observant feat
Caramon: Champion Fighter (or Brute, if UA's allowed), Mercenary Veteran
Raistlin: Lunar Sorcerer, Mage of High Sorcery (could also be a pact of the tome Undying warlock with Fistan as a patron and all ''eyes'' invocations).
Goldmoon: Redemption Paladin, Tribe member
Riverwind: Scout Rogue, Outlander
Tika: Thief Rogue, Custom BG: Tavern Brawler feat
Tass: Mastermind Rogue, Far Traveler
Flint: Berserker Barbarian, Clan Crafter

I think it keeps the low magic feel of the adventurers, making Raist the only main caster.

That's because an awful lot of players play evil, no matter what their alignment says. It's where the stereotype of murder-hobo comes from, after all!
I don't think being curios and not listening to authority is evil (in or out D&D) as much as it is chaotic or something similar...

if an NPC tells me 'take this letter to X, don't open it and read it' I have about a 60/40 chanve where 60 is doing as i was told and 40 being taking a look... some of my players it;s closer to 5/95 but I wouldn't call any of them evil.... and being ambitus isn't being evil

not exactly how I would have gone... but VERY close (I love the idea of Raistlin being a tome pact warlock)

Rolled stats are still the norm.
