One of the most iconic images of Lord Soth was painted by Keith Parkinson (and you can buy a print from his website). It features Soth aboard his nightmare steed, leading his legion of skeletal warriors into battle.

Let's see if that loads...

Amazing what they did with 16 colors and 320x200 pixels!

EDIT: ah, rats, it's another character riding the death dragon, not Lord Soth.
But Soth did raise him as a death knight, so it still ties into the main plot point.

And Lord Soth from the game.

And the Hands of Doom painting. IIRC featured as a cover on one of the Dragonlance novels.

Soth didn't need to raise undead dragons or other undead. He was a force of (un)nature himself. He literally walked up to the gates of a city and went through them and no one could stop him. The only reason Tanis didn't die is because he got out of the way.

When he went to Ravenloft, Strahd gave him a wide berth more or less. Nothing Strahd did impeded Soth from his goal.

He didn't need an undead army. Heck even the few Skeleton Warriors he rode around with weren't really needed.

But yeah its cool, Big Death Dragon and Undead army. We all watched Game of Thrones.

As mentioned several times in this thread, the plot point of Soth using undead dragons and raising an army of undead comes from the CRPG Death Knights of Krynn, which predates the original novel Game of Thrones by several years. Heck, there are even screenshots of the game...

At the time it came out "Lord Soth's Charge" - the Parkinson's picture above, was one that put chills down my spine. Reading that charge in the novels (I think Dragons of Spring Dawning) was awesome.

Surprised they didn't have him riding the Tarrasque ;) .

He still had the undead army even if he did not need it.
