WotBS WOTBS Gee Whiz Question

I looked through all 11 adventures I have plus the two guides. Does Ragesia have some kind of Imperial symbol that they use? Or Dassen or Shahalesti for that matter? One of my players wants to...for some reason....be a herald and he's asked the question already. Or are national symbols something for the DM to just make up at whim?

I think you can make them up yourself. The campaign was designed to be able to work in any world, so adding too much detail was probably unnecessary.

Here are some suggestions:

Ragesia: a rampant dragon wielding a torch.

Dassen: a book surrounded by 9 (or is it seven?) mountains, one for each of the domains in the union.

I don't know enough about Shahalesti to think of something good but since we're dealing with elves and a forested land, something with trees might be a good start. A star motif is also generic and works well with elves.

Its known as the Shining Land, so maybe some sort of sun motif?

Personally, I think their symbol should be a pile of elf corpses, each one with a dagger in its back, but I suppose that might be a bit too appropriate.

Pretty good ideas.

For Dassen, I would go with a central book, a mountain beneath it, and then four mountains on either side, like parentheses, representing the eight lands, and the central holding of the King (but the king is below the book, which represents their union).

The Shahalesti have a hard-on for the sun. I'd suggest something akin to the White Tree of Gondor in Lord of the Rings, with a sunburst behind the crown of the tree.

For Sindaire, they are a holding of Ragesia, but their original national flag might have been a two-tone background (blue on the left for the sea, gold on the right for the land) with a bear of the opposite color on each of the sides, and a diamond in each corner.

For Ostalin, I kinda like this early Mongolian flag, but probably with different colors. I'd give the background a dark stormcloud look, and trim it in gold. The central image would be a stylized mount - which could represent a horse, hippogriff, or, y'know, giant mile-long living airship troop carrier.

Dang. Now I kinda want to see this stuff in the compilation.

those are all really good ideas. I'm thinking Seaquen and Gate Pass would also have some sort of heraldy since they are independant city-states.
unfortunately my drawing skills aren't up the the par of what the rest of the artwork is in the series, so I'm out on that.

*laughs* I think my players would be quick to agree, and they're only in adventure #3.

I hadn't even thought of doing any heraldry... this is a fantastic idea. I know someone who does coats of arms for the local SCA, so I'm sure I could find all sorts of ideas...

I might be able to find some time to whip a few things up, too.

My players would find the pile of elves with daggers in the back perfect for Shahalesti.

Here's my players' standard which I created just yesterday.

According to Scouring of Gate Pass #1:

"A dozen real soldiers escort a pair of wounded and bound
orc soldiers wearing the uniform of Ragesian
infantry
— scale mail, a red tabard with a
half-crescent fireball on the chest
,"
