Here we go, bear in mind that this was first posted on ENWorld way back in 2010. This was the first of eight trivia quizzes. I'll repost the others if there is any interest.

Do you have a good memory for obscure Dungeons & Dragons facts and names, or an encyclopedic knowledge of D&D history? Try these ten multiple choice trivia questions for size, but watch out for a few trick questions.

1. When it first appeared in print, what alignment did the carbuncle have?

A. Chaotic neutral
B. Neutral
C. Neutral good
D. Neutral with chaotic tendencies
E. Neutral/Malicious

E. Although the Fiend Folio (1981) lists the carbuncle as "Neutral with chaotic tendencies", this vaguely armadillo-like creature with a ruby stuck in its forehead was "Neutral/Malicious" when it first appeared in White Dwarf #8 (1978).

2. In 1st Edition AD&D , what was the official movement speed of a flesh golem?

A. 6"
B. 7"
C. 8"
D. 9"
E. 10"

D. The Monster Manual says 8", but Dragon #35 contains official errata correcting this to 9".

3. Where is it illegal to purchase or use Imelda's Hair Removal Cream?

A. The Rock of Bral
B. Castle Bluebeard in the domain of Blaustein
C. The Emirates of Ylaruam
D. Palanthas
E. Durat Tal, Riedra

C. According to Joshuan's Almanac & Book of Facts it is illegal in the Emirates of Ylaruam (and the nation of Rockhome). Remove unwanted hair permanently. 4-ounce container just 10 cp. Also, remove wrinkles with Imelda's Ageless Cream. 4-ounce container just 12 cp. Guaranteed to work or double your money back.

4. How much might one expect to pay for a metallophone?

A. 95 gp
B. 950 gp
C. 9500 gp
D. 95,000 gp
E. 950,000 gp

A. Just 95gp, according to The Complete Bard's Handbook. A metallophone is a xylophone with metal bars that are beaten with small hammers. There's a picture of one -- Metallophone (24") -- on page 88 of the book.

5. What strange device did the Archmage Rahn-Ko's twin brother invent?

A. A spelljamming helm powered by psionics
B. A magical iron that changes the color of cloth it is applied to
C. A carrion crawler-powered device for cleaning dungeons
D. A healing potion that is administered automatically after loss of consciousness
E. X-ray eyeglasses

C. Rahn-Ko's brother Ungah created "Ungah's Dungeon Cleaner", which is pulled by a carrion crawler with a fish dangling in front of it. Rahn-Ko himself created "Rahn-Ko's Ranger Fooler", a large steam-powered device with detachable feet which erases tracks and replaces them with fakes. These and other delights courtesy of AC11: The Book of Wondrous Inventions.

6. Which of the following names means "she-who-sleeps-at-night"?

A. Chuka-tet
B. Drasna
C. Hakka
D. Klik-chaka'da
E. Lakta-cho

B. The Thri-Kreen of Athas use Drasna as a name for a human woman who, apparently, sleeps at night. Chuka-tet means "knowledge seeker", Hakka "lost seeker", Klik-chaka'da "teacher of mindpower and reverence" and Lakta-cho "finder and returner of lost knowledge". A score of 8 or more on this quiz gains you the nickname Lakta-cho.

7. What might one bump into when visiting Cheisin?

A. A horde of zombies
B. A powerful lycanthrope
C. Anything except a paladin
D. Creatures associated with elemental ooze
E. Self-aware plants

B. Cheisin, a realm on the Khalas layer of Gehenna is the domain of Squerrik, god of wererats. Squerrik is described in Monster Mythology as "cowardly and physically weak". He is so pathetic that most other deities don't consider him worth bothering with. (But he is still a Lesser God…) His realm is named as Cheisin in Planes of Conflict.

8. What is said to taste like a snail but with a bitter aftertaste?

A. Aquatic elves
B. Tarrasque meat
C. Piercers
D. Slaadi
E. Slug, Giant

C. Piercers, according to the Monstrous Manual, which goes on to add that their eggs and offspring are not traded on the open market. (Presumably because of the lousy taste?)

9. How many different DM Screens have been published for D&D (and AD&D) over the years?

A. 1-8
B. 9-15
C. 16-21
D. 22-30
E. More than 30

E. I counted at least 35. Starting with the licensed Judge's Shield (1977), spanning nine versions for D&D, two for AD&D, fourteen for AD&D2, nine for D&D3.X and one so far for D&D4. A new "Deluxe Dungeon Master's Screen" is due for release in February 2011.

10. Where might one find the hide-out of brigands who do not seem to be joking loudly or singing as they advance?

A. The Well-Guarded Fortress
B. The Lake of Mean Thoughts
C. The Unexplored Jungle
D. The Greate Olde Woode
E. The Abandoned Tower

D. They are in the Greate Olde Woode, from the classic-for-all-the-wrong-reasons N2: The Forest Oracle.
