Huh. I really like that idea. It would be interesting to see how badly a player wants to play their concept. ("Here, I'll trade you some well rounded decent stats for your pile of trash with a high INT so I can play a wizard!")

Having lots of control during character creation has a few downsides.

1. It takes longer
2. It can lead to people only ever playing one type of character
3. It can lead to people creating characters with few weaknesses or interesting elements.

Interestingly enough it can also lead to people changing characters more often. Once they start playing they second guess all the choices they made and start desiring to roll up a new character.

I prefer random character generation. But I understand it's not everyone's cup.
