Hello all. I've joined a 1e game but managed to talk the GM into letting me convert the sorcerer back to 1e. Need some input on the conversion.
(And, btw, I'm trying to get the group to try 3e. But I haven't succeeded yet).
The Sorcerer
(Conversion to 1st edition)
Sorcerers, like illusionists, form a sub class of magic users, and in most cases they conform to the characteristics of their two brethren. To be a sorcerer requires a character have a minimum charisma of 15 and a minimum intelligence of 10.
Unlike other magic users, the sorcerer learns his magic intuitively. He doesn’t need a spellbook, a deity’s sponsorship, or any outside aid to use his magic, and he often disdains those that do. Neither does he memorize spells at the beginning of the day – instead he chooses from a list of “known spells” and then casts his spell spontaneously. The number of spells a sorcerer knows at each level is determined by his level, not unlike the number of spells other spellcasters can memorize. The sorcerer also has a number of spells / day like all other casters. These are given on the two tables, and you will note that while a sorcerer can cast more spells than any other class at any level, his spell selection is far less than any other class at any level (except perhaps for magic users with an very low intelligence score).
Although a sorcerer has a very small selection of spells, he does have a great deal of flexibility with those spells. He can choose to cast a spell out of any spell slot that has a greater level than the spell – for example he can use 2nd level spell slots to cast a 1st level spell.
Like clerics and druids, a sorcerer with a high charisma gains bonus spells / day as follows

Another advantage that sorcerers have over other magic users is that he doesn’t need most material components. If a spell with a material component doesn’t give a value for that component the sorcerer can use the spell without the component. However, sorcerers cannot learn spells requiring expensive material components (like identify).
Sorcerers disdain and cannot make magic items, further they can’t use most magic items either. The only items they can use are
· All potions not restricted to fighters only.
· Miscellaneous magic items useable by all classes.
The Sorcerer uses the same experience point table as the magic user.
