I generally don't put to much effort into settlement building.

If I do it's function over appearance.

me over here making videos showing off my settlements That said it's a challenge with no mods, and some settlements (hangman's alley comes to mind) are downright unbuildable without mods. There's a NPC pathing error in HA that prevents them from going to one side.

I don't play on survival mode.

I have found a new marked location that I didn't find before, so that was neat.

You can its just slow and meh.

Best fallout 4 imho is survival mode keep what you kill, live off the land.

Do brotherhood of steel, visit far harbor.

Worst is get sidetracked with minutemen or railroad and the build stuff dlcs.

I just avid the minutemen at all costs. It isn't much of a loss either. Oh, no, no Preston Garvey bugging me to death every 4 minutes!

I do love the gun grafting, though, and I am super glad it is not tied to any particular faction quest line.

I'd suggest giving the Sims Settlement 2 mod a look, you don't have to build induvial buildings with it, you just put down the plot of land for the type of building you want and the settlers build it. It also includes a number of quest and NPCs.

Yeah. Still might be better than Railroad though.

At least the railroad hs an entertaining NPC to walk you through their quest line.
