how does attack in Blink spell works?

in second edition ad&d, im a little con fused ...it say that u roll 2d 8 for initiative, and if u whant to attack before blink, roll 1d10.

if u attack after blink u add the 2d8 to 1d10..

thats the point!

if you blink (lets say u blink 3 times, for example), then attack, cant u say that you are not attacking AFTER blink 1, but BEFORE blink 2????

....Huh?
Blink in 3.0 and 3.5 doesn't work like that. You don't pick the rate at which you blink - you just *do* it and gain a 50% miss chance for any attacks or spells aimed at you.

In the 1.0 I have here, again, the player has no control over the blinking effect once it's started. You roll 2d4 to determine what segment of the round they 'vanish' during. And their reappearance is calculated by a 1d8 roll to determine which direction they appear 2 ft from where they disappeared from. (even less control than 3.0 - you don't know where you'll pop back in)

During and after the blink point of a round (one blink a round!) the user can only be targeted by things that affect both prime and etheral sides of the planes. There's a few more rules here about a 75% chance of not getting your spells or anything but a physical assault off correctly due to disorrientation post blink, or being on the wrong plane when you cast.

I doubt they changed the spell *that* much in 2nd - but I'll go see if I can hunt that book out of storage and check for you.

your question appears to be about delaying your turn to the start of the next round
i dont understand how this matters, in both cases your player attacks between blinks
what benefit is gained by having your attack labeled part of round Y instead of roundX?

i just looked through the PHB and PO:combat and tactics
you can "hold your attack" until later in the round, but i found nothing about holding it till the start of the next round

from my reading, your player declares their action (deciding to attack before or after the blink) before blink time is rolled
A. if they want to attack before the blink,
1. declare attempt to act before blink
2. roll initiative(d10), they will swing on that count (or in the same direction if they blink first)
3. roll blink time(2d8), they blink on this count
resolution
if d10 is lower than 2d8, they attack normally then blink
if d10 is greater than 2d8, they blink then attack in the same direction they we trying to (possbily swinging at an ally, a wall, empty space, etc)
-or-
B. if they want to attack after the blink,
1. declare to act after blink
2. roll blink time(2d8), they blink on this count
3. after they blink, declare their action
4. roll d10 and add to the 2d8, act on this count

hopefully this helps,
or try to rephrase your problem
