The 3e covers were my absolute favorites. They looked like in-universe tomes, and it was awesome.

I definitely like the front cover more than the back cover. I’m not usually a fan of the “heroes grouped up, looking into the camera and posing” style composition, which both pieces have going on, but at least on the front cover you can see that there’re looking at a group of enemies that are just at the edge of the frame, which I don’t see on the back cover. I also love the idea that, if the DMG art is focused on villains, it might have the reverse-shot of this image. Fingers crossed, at least.

I do like the art with the aged-up cartoon characters better than either.

Yeah, the Pathfinder image has exceeded the buckles and pocket quota limit, though.

I am very excited if that is representative of the interior art style.

I'm not a big fan of the 3E art of my youth, but it would be fun if those Iconics get a nice callout, too.

Melf is confirmed to be casting his arrow in the book.

I agree that the choice of characters is a deep old cut, but not a legendary cut, they don't seem to know the difference between simply old characters and popular older characters.

That being said, I'm fine with this, especially since there will be other perhaps more popular characters from all the major settings. I think its a huge mistake not to use the MtG full borderless are for Elminster for example.
