hi. I'm about to start paying a campaign in Dragonlance using a d&d. I know nothing about the setting. But I know a few things about ad&d.
I'm planning to play a human wizard. Do you have any recommendation?. my character has rolled 18 int, 16 dex and 15 con.
I'm not sure what Kind of wizard I'll play.
there is some book I can read to have a general idea of the setting? I have the player's guide from second ed, but I have not read it yet.

I'm not certain what books they are...there have been a few about Krynn (the world of Dragonlance).

There aren't...or weren't originally...specialist wizards in Krynn. Dragonlance Wizards are dictated by (and pseudo-religiously connected to) the world's 3 moons who are, in effect, the world's 3 "deities" of magic. The white/silver moon for Good-aligned, "White Robes" wizards, the red moon for Neutral-aligned "Red Robes" wizards, and the unseen/"black" moon for Evil-aligned "Black Robes" wizards. Mages of all alignments can be/are considered "Wizards of High Sorcery" as they all must, at some point in their wizarding careers, visit the "Tower of High Sorcery" and pass a series of tests (the passing of which allwos one access to higher levels of magic). So what/if there is an actual "Prestige Class" that offers different/additional powers or skills to the PC I, also, do not know having never played in a DL campaign.

Whether a Dragonlance supplement ever gave any specific/separate wizarding powers depending on the wizard's alignment/robe color is unknown to me. My only understanding was that the Illusionist caste were typically (and as makes sense given the duplicitous nature of illusion magic) Red Robed "wizards."

I would imagine there is a 2e supplement for DL that might have tackled the specialist issue. I would be very surprised if it didn't stipulate that Necromancers have to be Black Robes. I would wager Conjuration specialists might be mandated to Red Robes. The rest of the schools, I would think, any alignment goes.

THe wizards caster levels waxed and waned in relation to their moons passage across the sky. 1st and 2nd ed had a wheel thing you could use to track the moons progress and it increased and decreased the wizards caster level IIRC. Specialists did not exist as such in 1st ed I will dig up the 2nd ed boxed set in regards to specialists tomorrow.
