D&D 5E How do you handle randomly rolling for stats

Point buy 27 or standard. Having big disparity in stats is real bummer and it hinders players if they had specific concept in mind. When we did rolled, everyone at the table rolled one set, including DM. Out of 5 sets, we take best one and all players used it. It keeps power level even and...

D&D 5E Long time players and 5e’s success

It's fascinating to read these few posts from outsider perspective. I grew up in Croatia, good old Balkans. Land of chaos and insanity. My HS years were in early to mid 2000s. Yes, D&D did attract fair number of geek guys who were into stem hs and also crowd from art hs. But most of people i...

    D&D (2024) 75 Feats -- not nearly enough

Tbh Tasha's custom lineage took big steaming dump on variant human. Giving automatic feat to custom lineage it also automaticly forces dm to allow feats if he allows it.

    D&D (2024) 75 Feats -- not nearly enough

-5 to hit is big deal since 17 str/dex is highest you can get at lv1-3, which means you have +0 to hit. Punny goblin has AC15. Hobgoblin has AC18. Gwm isn't that good until you get attacking stat mod at +4/+5 and prof mod at least +4. Yes, +10 damage is huge, but you will miss more often than...

    D&D (2024) 75 Feats -- not nearly enough

Level prerequsits fo feats are bad design imho. Good feats should be viable options at all levels,1-20. Locking feats via minimum level just means that lv 4 feats will be stronger and better than lv1 and that lv1 feats will give options that are less usefull at higher levels.

D&D 5E Long time players and 5e’s success

Well, i feel same way sometimes. In this 22 years i've been playing and buying stuff, i have enough game materials to last me a lifetime without spending penny for any new product. That's why i'm indiferent for 5.5 ed release. I have enough stuff already. For company to get my money ( or...

D&D 5E Long time players and 5e’s success

I'm a "young" 36 yo. In my group ( we sre 36-43 age range) we call ourselves "geriatrics". Yeah, millenials aren't kids any more. Some of my older milenial friends have adult (18-20 y o) and higschool aged kids. Oldest gen Zers are now in their late 20. This is anecdotal, but topical. Beside...

    D&D (2024) 75 Feats -- not nearly enough

Personaly, i like feats as optional rules. It makes character creation easier and faster. At this point, i would rather have 10-15 good, interesting and usefull feats than 75-100 feat of which 80-90% are rarley if ever taken cause they are outright bad, too niche or very situational. And no...

D&D General So, how much did/do you use psionics?

Never played 1ed. Used in 2ed in my Dark Sun game. In 3.5 i played one character for couple of sessions, can't remember what class it was tbh. Used it again in my Dark Sun game. Imho, Dark Sun is only setting of which psionics are integral part and mesh well with lore and theme. Used them...

D&D 5E Homebrew: How to modify Shield spell?

Or you get +1 studded leather armor for a price of lv1 slot. Which is not bad for a d6 hp class that tends to be primary target of any inteligent oponent. It's decent, but not OP. How often utility ones come to play depends on campaign and playstyle. 1st level slots at higher levels are usefull...

D&D 5E Homebrew: How to modify Shield spell?

I would leave it as a reaction. But i think that shield isn't that strong at tier1 levels where it matters most. So i would keep it as is and add -use bonus action and make DC10 check using casting mod to extend shield duration until the end of your next round, for every round you extend it...

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

Yup. 4th edition was heavily influenced by MMORPGs. It's reflection of that time. When 4th came out, WoW was around it's peak popularity and 4th tried to capture some of the that game feel cause there was a large overlap between d&d and wow player base. In that context, pure support class had...

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

To use sports analogy. 4e is Atletico Madrid under Cholo Simeone. Team cohesion. No superstars, but everyone does it's job and does it good. 5e is more like PSG couple of sesons ago. You have Messi, Neymar and Mbape. 3 great players on the same team, but each playing for their own glory. You...

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

Didn't read what Mearls was saying 10+ years ago, but tbh that sounds like pr bullsh*t statement. They did kind of give 4e lip service. Short/long rest recharge abilities are watered down and simplified versions of encounter/daily powers. 5e design structure just isn't that friendly to 4e...

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

Comparing 4e and 5e is like comparing apples to tomatoes. Both are fruit ( dnd editions). But they are conceptually very different. 4e is built around small unit tactics and plays more like small scale tactical wargame. Classes have more focused roles and specific area where they shine and whole...

What criticisms do you have for current or previously used systems?

I voted for 3 things, system is 5ed D&D Insufficient risk to PCs- while levels 1-4 can be potentialy deadly, after that you have to go out of your way to design adventure that is deadly but fair ( in game time constrains, antimagic zone, enemy casters with dispells etc). Past level 10, you play...

D&D 5E Who tried to end the OGL?

I think that internet crowd overestimates how much casual players give a damn about what wotc as a company does with it's licensing. Especialy older players who just play the game and look up from time to time if there is anything new for their game.

What Is Your Favorite Campaign Setting?

Fantasy wise it would be Ravenloft ( including Masque of Red Death), WH, Dark Sun in that order. I love more grim&gritty games SF wise 40k and Cyberpunk. Same as above. Dark and gritty. Shadowrun is also in my favourites, i like cyberpunk meets fantasy.

D&D 5E I don’t really care what rules the players use.

For my homebrew campaigns, i care, cause i invested time and energy to house rule system to turn down PC power and turn up lethality, and that included cuttin out and changing some player facing rules, including class modifications. For one-two shots, go wild. I encourage players to try...

How happy are you with your table/group?

Very satisfied. I've been playing with them since 2008. Latest addition to our group is my yunger brother. We are also very good and close knit friend group outside of gaming. I couldn't wish for better group of people to enjoy this hobby.
