    D&D (2024) The sorcerer shouldn't exist

I will let it go, but NeoChameleon continues it. My first was to Mecheons post. Then he entered. My post. This was a silly claim by them. Wizards have no gift in 5E like in Harry Potter. Wizards gift (not magical) is they study, apprenticeship, stuff, with oportunity to do this stuff. This is...

    D&D (2024) The sorcerer shouldn't exist

You feel better making fun of my screen name? That is not healthy. I make up nothing. It is all in the book as I showed you. No, ALL wizards. Spellbooks supported in several ways. You do not know wizards I guess. 1, without spellbook you cannot change spells. 2, you need spellbook to put in...

    D&D (2024) The sorcerer shouldn't exist

I would not call the extraordinary events from wizard text outright extraordinary either. They are not special ore magical to create innate magical casting. Work and study and stuff is what wizards use.

    D&D (2024) The sorcerer shouldn't exist

No it is your wordplay. I do not insist no gift (chance to learn, get apprenticeship, non-magical. NOT the magical innate gift of Sorcerer) or "special" event for wizard (not special at all), I say the gift or event does not create innate magic. Your wordplay is to connect non-magial injecting...

    D&D (2024) The sorcerer shouldn't exist

You keep calling it a gift but by rules there is no gift. It is just study, apprenticeship, hard work, and stuff. If you can understand it, you learn it. Please stop word play. This gift you call is not the gift of having innate magic as sorcerer. Coming into contact with magic in a world of...

    D&D (2024) The sorcerer shouldn't exist

The first two have nothing to deal with proving third. You still do not prove anything. Humans are capable of magic, yes, but does not make them innately magic. Again capable of magic. Not innate magic. Psi Warrior and other such are exceptions to the general rule: humans are not innately...

D&D 5E What is the Sorcerer?

Yes. for 25 spells total 15 and 2 each level 1 to 5. Same as prepared maximum for level 20. In 2024 UA they have more by default.

    D&D (2024) The sorcerer shouldn't exist

"Spells" in quotes right? Not spells, but yes WotC made Psionic magic. 1E no. "they enable characters so endowed to perform in ways which resemble magical abilities." from PHB. Resemble. 2E no. Complete Psionic Handbook "Many people assume that psionics is just another type of magic. The...
  9. Flights of Fancy

    D&D (2024) The sorcerer shouldn't exist

Nothing to do with leveling up. Sorcerers have a bloodline or event or something lets them harness their gift. Luck is still not a gift. Study and apprenticeship is how wizards learn to use magic. Not a gift such as the sorcerer bloodlines and stuff. Very big differences other than they both...
  10. Flights of Fancy

    D&D (2024) The sorcerer shouldn't exist

Is magical =/= as capable of spellcasting Sorcerers are the only one with the other side is true. Not always. 5E has chosen to treat it this way. Still, it is not innate Human magic. Not everyone can use psionics. Anyone can become a wizard by study, apprenticeship, and stuff. Martial is not...

D&D 5E What is the Sorcerer?

Objectively being the thing. The idea is limiting. The practice is not. So it is not a check or balance for sorcerers. Of course, sorcerer has other toys. Of course it is less a chack or balance for other spellcasters.
  12. Flights of Fancy

    D&D (2024) The sorcerer shouldn't exist

Yes. Wizards do not come with innate magic. They apprentice and study for years to learn magic. This is why it is intelligence for wizards. Such a preferrence is option 1. Which is okay then if you think wizard should be a subclass of soerccer.
  13. Flights of Fancy

    D&D (2024) The sorcerer shouldn't exist

I have no idea what you even talk about now. No level 0. No gift for wizards. Hard work to become the class and cast spells as they do. Unless your game says wizards have a gift which makes them able to learn magic like Harry Potter, they cannot be subclass of sorcerer because sorcerers do have...
  14. Flights of Fancy

D&D 5E What is the Sorcerer?

The 2 or 3 spells per level is about all casters not just sorcerers. For sorcerers to 12th level it is 2 each spell level, not less than 2 and 2 is part of 2 or 3. So nothing wrong about what I wrote. Not limiting in play at all. Idea is there, use fails. It is gone in 2024 so not an issue for...
  15. Flights of Fancy

    D&D (2024) The sorcerer shouldn't exist

No. A wizard must study and learn how to read, comprehend, cast, etc. from the spellbook by a teacher. That is option 2, the way it works now. This is why it makes not sense to be subclass of sorcerer. There is no gift for Wizard. If you run your game where wizards must still have a gift before...
  16. Flights of Fancy

    D&D (2024) The sorcerer shouldn't exist

That is option 1 yes. If the other way, sorcerer would be wizard subclass that through will force or blood has broken the link to the spellbook and no longer relies on it.
  17. Flights of Fancy

    D&D (2024) The sorcerer shouldn't exist

Which is good if you like that concept. My point was some people do, others don't. For persons who do not it does not work. For your take that works. But in option 2 there is no gift. You learn to cast spells as wizard through learning magic and utilizing it. Others reading wizard spellbook...
  18. Flights of Fancy

    D&D (2024) The sorcerer shouldn't exist

Yes, a sorcerer, but not a wizard, in the second option. The idea was to make wizard a subclass of sorcerer. Spellbooks allow greater spell access is the subclass thing. Which I feel works if you want wzards to have the gift for magic, like Harry Potter. I said if the ability to use magic is a...
  19. Flights of Fancy

    D&D (2024) The sorcerer shouldn't exist

I think this would work if your concept of wizard means someone must have a "gift" or talent for magic to study it. Like Harry Potter. If you go the other direction that anyone can study magic and become a wizard given the means opportunity it wouldn't make sense.
