Paizo Unveils Gen Con 2024 Releases

I love the non-standard premise of the announced "Curtain Call Adventure Path". It's a breath of fresh air, and we've not seen something like this since 2009's 'The Sixfold Trial' (part of Council of Thieves AP). Nice to see them branching out. Plus, now that Paizo stated they are setting aside...

Pathfinder 2E PF2 Remaster PDFs have been sent out! Talk about/ask questions about them here.

They are clear, and quite new player friendly. I actually like them better than the original CRB. I find the formatting of the pages more consistent, the Font usage (which exploded from 30 to 51) better, and the removal of the 'parchment' background makes the text and illustrations 'pop' more.

Player Core and Gamemaster Core Remastered Review

I'm ecstatic for the new Revision in general, and while I'm not a fan of the 'corrected' death and dying rules, I doubt they will affect my campaign's play at any significant level. Case in point: my latest campaign is Agents of Edgewatch, with a party of five Martial's and the Stamina Variant...

Paizo News: Organized Play & Humble Bundle Partnership

You'd think they rushed to get this into Humble Bundle with the whole WotC OGL mess. However the funny thing is that Eric Mona stated over on Reddit that the planning for this most recent Humble Bundle started three months ago.o_O Like others, I've bought several of these bundles from Paizo...

Paizo Announces New Irrevocable Open RPG License To Replace the OGL

Amen, and I appreciate the distinction. Because too many people are getting hung up on "but that system is too crunchy for me". Lastly, I'd be stunned if Kobold Press's "Project Black Flag" isn't released under the new ORC license as well. Heck, I wouldn't mind 50 different SRD's released...

Paizo Announces New Irrevocable Open RPG License To Replace the OGL

Beauty and Bane of the SRD I'd say. I rather like the fact that there will be diversity in what a 'Magic Missile' does. Personally I'd be bored to tears if it was the same damn thing across 20 systems. Holy C*ap, if I'm forced to use the same name, same description, same damage and same...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

Well, couldn't sleep while looking for a good droning video to put me back to sleep, I saw that Paizo (and apparently at least Kobold Press) are involved in the creation of a new Open Gaming License. Teaming up with the original IP Law Firm (Azora?) who helped create the original OGL. Here's...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

On a real world note: I got my first communication from a DtRPG vendor. They explicitly stated the fear of being unable to sell their content through the site: As a result they are now offering at least 80% of large content bundles, and 90% off of a bundle consisting of over 400+ OGL...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

Thank you. Wow... they laid it on the line didn't they? Nice big shot across the bow of those in the "Promissory Estoppel" boat. But then again (and IIRC), the esteemed minds here have consistently said it'll take a lawsuit to figure it all out.

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

Figured you legal types might like this link. Here is a 2021 YouTube inverview with an IP council at the Canadian firm Dentons about his 340 page thesis on the OGL. Critical Roll was the one that found it, but I started falling into a sound slumber after listening to the actual interview.

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

Thank you for the clarification, and it's a shame that I stated my point so badly that you needed to correct it. Honestly, the closest I come to legal issues is when daughter and wife watch "All Rise".;) I was attempting (poorly it seems) to posit that WoTC could take the course of action...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

Maybe they don't have to. As others here have suggested, it would be much easier to go after those parties who sell/offer the offending, 'unlicensed' content. One it's much easier because it's considerably smaller target(DriveThruRPG, various VTT's, etc..). Besides, if the various parties...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

Yea, I'm with you; the publicity firestorm was just too obvious to miss. However, put yourself in the shoes of a small part-time company with a Kickstarter due to land in 2 months. You've spend multiple $ K's preparing the product, art, editing, layout etc... and now all of the sudden 1.1...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

Took a look at the thing during the lunch break. I have a friend who's a lawyer, that's the extent of my legal knowlege. But even my ignorant eye can see some real OMG's in that document. Like this one from 2 "What if I don’t like these terms and don’t agree to the OGL: Commercial? That’s fine...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

Don't underestimate the international aspect of this (S'Mon and others on pg 11 is a good start). Additionally, other jurisdictions have much stronger protections for wealth inequality between litigating parties (See S'Mon's post #253 on). In the US though, user AbdulAlhazred's #651 post is...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

If you want to understand where the Agreement argument comes from, I point you to Page 11 of this thread. User 'bmcdaniel' lines out a very coherent and compelling opinion as to why that is the case. I have no problem believing that opinion comes from a position of considerable experience with...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

First off, I want to thank everyone for their reasoned, coherent posts. This thread, with it's plethora of knowledgeable people posting their best 'experienced' opinion here has done a world of good to my overall outlook. Of course this is a fluid situation, and nobody but NOBODY knows what...

Vote For The Most Anticipated Tabletop RPG Of 2020

It's only been 8 1/2 years since Rolemaster (Unified) (ICE) had it's first beta, perhaps this will be the one. :ROFLMAO: After all, good things come to those who wait.

What Game Did You Leave D&D For?

I too left 5E for some time. The reasons are hard to explain, but I found myself being constantly annoyed by both the system. So I reached back into my past, and have been running a new Rolemaster (Unifited/United/beta) game. Oh it's still beta, but the powers-that-be are seriously suggesting...
