WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

That’s why you put points in your deception proficiency. There are lots of ways to get magic in D&D. You don’t have to be a wizard.

Not really, no. For something that is currently so popular and trendy, it's profits are decidedly lacklustre. One of the main issues being, you don't actually need to buy anything in order to play.

WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

"Only the DM buys them" tends to be true of the other rulebooks as well, not just adventures. So it's more something they have to live with than something they have solved. "How to make D&D profitable" is really still not solved, outside of CRPG flukes.

With hindsight, ToEE was pretty terrible. PotA takes the concept and tries to turn it into something that makes some kind of sense.

WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

I tend to associate 2nd edition adventures with "the Ravenloft period". The only one I had was Ship of Horrors, which is more a wannabe novel than an actual adventure. Never had any adventures for 3rd or 4th edition. The best thing from that period was probably Masks of the Betrayer, and that...

And Mercer himself had very little input into it. And is structured like WotC adventures so that is can be easily broken up for parts.

D&D General The thread where I review a ton of Ravenloft modules

Level 1. Ravenloft is supposed to be unfair and deadly.

D&D 5E Fey Wanderer vs Drakewarden on multiclass dip

Have we missed the obvious? Hunter colossus slayer gets 1d8 per round with the easy to meet requirement that the target must be damaged. And nothing that is difficult to fit to the backstory.

D&D General The thread where I review a ton of Ravenloft modules

The name is a bit of a clue… My players have been with me so long that they automatically mistrust any NPC who seems remotely helpful (especially gnomes).

D&D General Dungeons & Dragons Monster Joining Dead by Daylight

I suspect it was a lot easier to add a non-functional beholder for decoration than it would be to add a fully functional player controlled beholder. Image trying to shoot those eye rays in real time.

    The Hunt for Gollum

We need a a digitally resurrected Sean Connery to play Gollum. "My preshush."

It’s both. But since the vast majority of D&D players weren’t playing 50 years ago it doesn’t make a lot of sense to bog things down with a lot of obscure older references that will go over the heads of the players. Even Allustriel is a bit of a deep cut for most current players.

WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

The lore-heavy stuff of earlier editions was written to be read, not played. The last thing you want in the middle of an action movie toned adventure is a massive lore dump.

This kind of over-the-top nonsense is certainly not going to be to everyone's taste.

WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

These can both be summarised as "role-play the conversation and see what transpires". Not something that is easy to write in an adventure. If I was writing the adventure for myself I wouldn't actually write down anything at all. I would just play it by ear when the PCs reached that point. I...

D&D 5E What I Don't Like About Subclasses, and Potential Solutions.

You can have all those wizards. Mutant is for if you want Storms, Scarlet Witches and Professor Xs.

Okay. As you pass through the doorway your lance becomes jammed. Suddenly a swarm of flesh eating scarabs emerges from the ground and rushes towards you. You cannot move without breaking the lance.
