No More Massive Tomes of Rules

To be fair: at least the German version of CoC had a weapons source book which has 300 pages (Link). Now it's not merely mechanics, and also not very relevant for my personal playstyle, but apparently there is a target audience for such a book, even among CoC players.

No More Massive Tomes of Rules

Generally speaking, I'm not a fan of large tomes. And that applies even when I like the game (e.g. DCC). This applies to book size, where I favour digest size books (best is German B5, but A5, half letter or 6"x9" are fine, too) over larger ones (or rather their PDF version, since my preferred...

Which table concerns do you consider the most significant?

I took this more broadly in the sense that maybe someone has a stressful job, needs to take care of a newborn or their parents, etc. And even though people are not to blame for this, it affects how present they are in game sessions (if they are able to attend at all).

Which table concerns do you consider the most significant?

Conflicts in player personalities, play styles and real-life intrusions would be my top three, too. I have also picked "Other" since I was not sure where to put GM burnout. And finally, I have picked disinterest in the system. It's less of a problem these days, but it has been in a number of...

    D&D (2024) New D&D Edition's Player’s Handbook Cover Reveal

Not really my thing. But the interior art with the characters from the old cartoon is nice (I think I would have liked that better as the cover).

    EN World New feature--Ranked Polls!

I am not able to vote for Aliens - shame! So it looks like this is working as intended, as I was able to vote on other entries. Edit: Weirdly, this is showing up as new in the list, even when I have visited the tread. And Jump to New is broken.

What Is Your Favorite Campaign Setting?

Shadowrun itself/2050+ would be 6th world IMO. 4th would be Earthdawn if I remember correctly (though this is probably no longer canon).

What criticisms do you have for current or previously used systems?

This one is a bit difficult, because my criticism greatly varies per system. I'll think a bit about it, but off the cuff it seems like I could check a lot of boxes, and the result wouldn't be meaningful (even if I limit it to systems I have played for longer periods of time), as e.g. things that...

    I thought this one ;) :

How happy are you with your table/group?

As mentioned in the other poll, I have two regular groups. Both are great (i.e. I'm very satisfied) - we have a good balance of contributions, everybody is fine with system and campaign, and general atmosphere is good, too.

How happy are you with your regular ruleset?

I'm currently in two regular groups, one playing Savage Worlds/Sprawlrunners, the other playing Call of Cthulhu 7e/Pulp Cthulhu. I'm satisfied with both, though rules-wise, CoC is a bit closer to somewhat satisfied (I would like to see Chaosium do an 8e, which compresses the skill list and comes...

    Exception-Based Design?

Irrespective of naming, exception-based design does have the advantage that it provides a means of mechanical character customisation (especially, if we understand it more broadly as anything that modifies or adds to the base rules). And I think that's something that appeals to many people. In...

    Exception-Based Design?

Maybe then Dragonbane is something that could interest you. I personally was not such a big fan because it felt too reminiscent of 5e for me, but it mostly would fit what you describe (it is roll-under instead of roll-over, though, due to having a BRP part in its DNA).

Is it time for a new ENWorld demographics survey?

Certainly some truth in that - I have heard statements like forums being a thing of the past/for old people too often to discount them as outliers. But I do agree with @payn that Discord, even with the message board channel feature, feels like a poor replacement for a forum. I do like it, but...
