    D&D General Ignoring the rules!

I've been here for decades and I still feel that way.

    D&D 5E Running 5e at high Levels

I would first say: we've had long combats throughout the campaign. I haven't noticed the proportion of time taken with combat going dramatically upwards as we climbed to higher levels. I see two forces at work. On one side, mechanical complexity tends to combats being longer, true. On the other...

    D&D 5E Running 5e at high Levels

I'm running a 17th level 5E campaign. Most of the players have never played at this kind of level. They're only now discovering the possibilities of scrying, divination, wish, etc. Adjustment to Wish have done wonders for abuse of that spell (I never relished the "deliberately misinterpret the...

D&D General What is your favorite Token/Miniature in DnD?

Fiendish T-Rex from Giants of Legend. Swallowed a paladin with him. What a wonderful day that was! :)

D&D General When did you leave D&D? Why? For what game? And what brought you back?

A simple desire for more variety. To try a game that made my eyes go wide. To play something that one of our number was keen to run. To have some fun with an upcoming holiday (e.g. Hallowe'en). To test my ability to cook up a one-shot. I always come back because D&D's baseline matches the kind...

D&D General Dungeons & Dragons Monster Joining Dead by Daylight

I'm suddenly thinking of Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime but with beholders instead of spaceships!

D&D General D&D "influencers" need to actively acknowledge other games.

I don't agree with the premise. I have no expectations for a YouTube channel other than to make content I enjoy, to be honest, and to at least have a perspective on it. If that perspective is fresh, then that Like button will certainly get a smash, as they say.

D&D 5E D&D Beyond: No More À La Carte Purchases But US Customers Can Buy Physical Books

I believe the removal of piecemeal transactions had been forecast, but I'm still very disappointed to see it happen. The majority of my money went that way into DNDB. Ah, well. Presumably, we'll see some kind of god-tier subscription option in the near future, giving you access to everything as...

D&D 5E Why I think gold should have less uses in 5e, not more.

What's your take on the idea that "wonder" is a setting (or even playstyle) specific goal?

D&D 5E Why I think gold should have less uses in 5e, not more.

That's right. I'll take a dollop of uncertainty if it frees me creatively.

D&D 5E Why I think gold should have less uses in 5e, not more.

That's a setting specific observation, imo. I don't subscribe to the magimart next to the bakery school of play, but giving avenues to the PCs to exchange their hard earned cash for greater power can be great fun.

D&D General So those of us who know later editions yet still play AD&D 2 - what are its draws?

Having started in AD&D (mostly), and being a player in a long-running AD&D RAW nostalgia campaign, I would have to say, very little. Thankfully, the DM in question has mellowed greatly over the years, and has turned from a "No" DM to a "No, but/and" DM, which is nice. I'm a grid player, so totm...

D&D 5E Why I think gold should have less uses in 5e, not more.

Without any decent wealth by level guidelines (something which 4E, with its interwoven systems, did very well), I've mostly winged my way through to 17th level in 5E. Gold has served its purpose. It's a tangible reward, a signal of player empowerment (a distinctly un-elven drive for wealth was...

D&D General How Do You Feel About Randomness?

I don't like randomness during chargen. It's fun until the exact moment Session 0 finishes. Right now we generate with the standard fixed array and max HP at first level. Subsequently, the players are free to roll or take the average. For enemy HP, I either take the stated average, or pump it...

D&D General How many DMs buy (official) adventures?

I have limited anecdotal evidence. In my AD&D youth, the many DM's I hung around with at school had fistfuls of adventures. I borrowed a couple, and ran them, but thought I knew everything soon after and started making stuff up (I didn't hear the word "homebrew" until much later). That was my...

D&D (2024) How excited are you for the new 2024 edition d&d?

    4. Yes, I am excited, and happy to say so. This has been a successful edition for my tables, and we're ready to see the next evolution of the game without losing the core of what has worked for us.

WotC How to I find my claimed content on dndbeyond?

Likewise. And it wouldn't be complicated. It's a glaring user experience compromise feebly intended to encourage impulse buys, which only gets more irritating as the library grows. DNDB is a great product, but I'll never fully enjoy it until this absurd limitation is removed.

D&D General Where to divest oneself of 5E books?

eBay is excellent for thinning out an RPG collection. I've done it a time or two. The market is healthy but you have to endure some overhead
