D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

It was good- fast-paced, starting in a combat that was last session's cliffhanger and ending in a confrontation with the adventure's BBEG (or one of them, anyway) that was inconclusive and resulted in the bad guy fleeing while the pcs fell back, both sides pretty close to defeat. For those...

D&D 5E How do you handle randomly rolling for stats

When I'm running my game, the players roll for stats, but I review the array and if it is boring- which is completely subjective but includes results that are too good, too bad, or too middle of the road- I have the player reroll. When I'm making a pc, I prefer to roll stats in order and see...

    D&D 2E [2e] Monster Mythology Update Project

Arch-devils and demon princes were considered lesser gods in 1e. They could definitely grant spells; there are specifically tons of examples of clerics of Lolth back then.

D&D 5E Bigger monsters do more damage

You are significantly increasing the damage output, and therefore the Challenge Rating, of bigger monsters. This may result in making many bigger monsters that are otherwise appropriate for low to mid level pcs shift to where they are only appropriate for higher level pcs to face, which may have...

D&D 5E Homebrew: How to modify Shield spell?

My 'fix' would be to make the shield bonus apply only against the triggering attack, with the option to upcast one level to have it last until the end of the turn it activates, and to upcast it two levels to have it last until the end of your next turn.

Describe your last rpg session in 5 words

Just to be clear, Hunger of the Unicorn is a reflavored Hunger of Hadar where you can't see because of the brightness, and the cold damage is brain freeze from forced ingestion of ice cream, and the acid damage comes from the intensity of the sugar content in all the cupcakes and caramel hitting...

    D&D General Re-Loring Monsters

In my campaign, tabaxi are the scattered remnants of an ancient and proud race. Their ancient empire used psionics instead of magic; in the 2e days, when not every race had magic-users, I established psionics as the alternative for the tabaxi, who didn't work with magic (that restriction has...

D&D 3E/3.5 AD&D DMG Random Encounter Tables redone to 3E

You're probably right that there weren't any really iconic additions to the monster list in 3e, but there are a ton of awesome monsters worth having on your random encounter charts. IMHO. Personally, I think some of 3e's new monsters are really cool: phantom fungi and krenshars, just to name two...

D&D 3E/3.5 AD&D DMG Random Encounter Tables redone to 3E

Dude, 3e has so many monsters that aren't in 1e! I am a huge monster guy and although I converted a buttload of monsters to 3e, I never did encounter charts using them all- I did do a few of the 1d12 + 1d8 style ones from the MM2 for specific areas of my campaign, but not general ones.

D&D 5E How would YOU nerf the wizard? +

Two things to start with. First, return to a d4 Hit Die. Second, allow a readied action to interrupt a spell being cast, given a failed Concentration check.

D&D 5E Potential Monsters in Quests from the Infinite Staircase Adventures

I love them! Given that I use the 2014 versions of the Conjure X spells, minimals make cool interesting random summons from Conjure Animals, and that in turn allows the party druids to wild shape into a new form. But to each their own.

D&D 5E Potential Monsters in Quests from the Infinite Staircase Adventures

"Sharper" is the level title for a 7th level thief in 1e.

D&D 5E As DM, Do you have monsters always fight?

I need a "Depends on the monster" answer. Some are always hostile, some are going to react based on the party's actions, some might react based on a die roll.

    D&D General Jerren Halfling Lore?

The jerren are an evil halfling subrace from the 3e Book of Vile Darkness. Have they ever been developed further? Is there any lore for them outside of the BoVD?

D&D 5E As a DM, how do you handle monster hit points?

I prefer to roll, but in practice, I usually go with the average. Sometimes a specific monster might have more or fewer hps than average; perhaps it's a sickly ogre or an especially burly death dog.

    D&D General From Another Edition

Well, the first reason is that I forgot all about the Next version. However, that version doesn't really do it for me- it does lightning damage, for one thing, where my version does radiant. There's a different energon type for lightning! Yeah, the take on them from the 3e Planar Handbook...

    D&D General From Another Edition

I love pulling resources from old editions- monsters, spells, adventures, etc. I convert old kits from the 2e brown books into subclasses; I update old feats; etc. What are some old edition things you brought into your game (or for that matter, for those playing older editions, what are some new...
