Give it a few more editions er... revisions to sanitize things down and we can all play as the Greendale Human from the Community tv show.
Hey, why you gotta be dabbing on Changelings like that?

(Also great thanks now I broke Changelings for myself forever!)

Here's what I would do: each ancestry has two types of traits: Major Traits and Minor Traits. Depending on how powerful the Major Traits are, an ancestry could have more or less Minor Traits. When making a mixed ancestry character, you pick 1 base Ancestry and get the Major Traits and then you get to swap as many Minor Traits as you want from your other parents. Or heck, as many other ancestry as you want! Maybe your grand parents are all from different ancestry!

Maybe the Human's schtick would be to have lots of minor traits to swap?
That is basically what LevelUp does IIRC

Personally I'm fine with the change mostly, but it really could have been handled better.

I just saw The Rising, a show on the The Hill Youtube channel covering the controversy, The Rising is a poliics, not cultural or Nerd challenge doesn't normally cover this kind of stuff, so I was shock it'd penetrated that far outside of the usual sphere that cares about this stuff. This is spiralling out of control for D&D studio PR wise, they need to get on this before it impacts that D&D movie. The OGL Scandal was bad enough.

They need to make it clear they support interracial families.

Wait really wow? All they had to do was put in a Tasha's-style option for making your own races and say half-races fell in that bucket, and made sure that bucket contained all the parts to assemble a Half-Elf or a Half-Orc, among other pieces. But no...

I tried to find a thread talking about this but couldn't...

This is how One D&D will handle this?

So via their example your just a halfling who looks like a gnome and may have a different life span than either.

Game stats wise though, you’re a Halfling. Talk about the most boring solution.

They couldn't come up with someway to combine an attribute of each to make something unique? Not just a weird looking basic Orc or Dwarf or Elf etc. Like pic one special ability of the Dwarf parent and one of the Orc parent (I have the Stonecunning of a Dwarf and the Aggression ability of the Orc) decide how you look (I'm light green like an Orc but the size and shape of a dwarf... with a beard!) Instead it's Im just a somewhat green Dwarf. Yawn.

The most safe yet boring way to deal with the Halves... and Halve nots.
No this is the best way to handle it. Mixed version is not a different species from their parents, and this way it does not get all eugenicly picking the best traits from either. You just take mechanically after one parent.

I get why you're saying that, because you're only thinking about the mechanics, not The Implication. And that's where WotC were at too. Only thinking about the mechanics, not The Implication - I presume someone white came up with this take (not talking about you, I mean at WotC), because I don't think a mixed person would have ever gone for "You are 100% of one parent, in terms of what you can do".

IDK, I’m pretty sure it was…eh never mind

They are. All 2014 content is still playable. They have reiterated this many times, including at the D&DDirect just this week. So you're in luck!
They did state that the 2014 versions will not be legal in 'official event' play. I think personally that Crawford just stepped in it verbally. If he'd said that, Half Elf and Half Orc are going away because now you can be half anything as a custom lineage and call it what you like, most players would have been fine. Instead, he stated that half anything is 'inherently racist'. I've so far heard a lot more people upset by the comment than the game change. Put it in the survey.
