At the cost of disincentivizing mixed ancestry characters for everyone who cares about their mechanics, whether they're hardcore optimizers or not.

Honestly, from a worldbuilding perspective, I think both the Dragonlance High Sorcery white/red/black robe classifications and the Star Wars Light Side/Dark Side divide would benefit greatly from being decoupled from the Good-Evil spectrum.
