A few things I really like about WFRP

Yeah. There is something special about taking all the hysteria and suspicion of the witch trials and the Spanish Inquisition and showing they were right to be paranoid because demons are going to try and get you if they can.

A few things I really like about WFRP

On a side note there are a few ways a character who isn’t specialized in combat can make a difference. Just by being involved. They can grant +20 or +40 to the attack roll by being the second or third engaged (or benefit from it themselves) which is pretty big in a d100 system. They can also...

A few things I really like about WFRP

I reckon a game like D&D would struggle to even have herbalist and knight as viable alternatives for each other. Yet in WFRP 4e it works. One of my favourite careers is Rat Catcher. Surprisingly effective in 4e.

A few things I really like about WFRP

So I’m about to convert another group to WFRP 4e that I previously played D&D with. That will be the fourth group now - all with campaigns still running 6+ months later and in one case years later - which is nice. I thought I would give examples of a few of the things that I really like about...

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

Funky? Such a funny word to describe something, Slightly off; about to turn; a little bit rank; musty smelling. Yeah that just about describes most gaming stores I knew in the 80’s. And more than a few players come to think of it😂

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

Feels pretty natural to have Greyhawk as a default setting. It was the default sedating for 3e after all, which is about as familiar as I am with it. I can’t begrudge fans an alternative in 5e to Forgotten Realms. Plus I know my DM is a big fan so I’ll benefit directly. I hope they link the...

D&D 5E Best Way to Challenge this Sorcadin, without high level spells

To be clear, I play with a regular group and I’m both Dm and player. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. We’re talking about agreements that build up over many many years of playing. One of which is - if you build a character that’s hyper tuned in one area to be invulnerable then...

D&D 5E Best Way to Challenge this Sorcadin, without high level spells

Adding +5 AC to all attacks for a round is huge. Big difference between that and a mundane +2 AC shield. Even more so considering you’re giving up a hand and reducing damage to carry it. I don’t have a problem with AC 22 characters. Currently up to level 18 in Age of Worms. Paladin is AC 21...

D&D 5E Best Way to Challenge this Sorcadin, without high level spells

👍 Lucky for both of us then Though AC22 isn’t just armoured it’s heavily armoured. Fully customized to maximize AC with class choices, weapon load out and magic items. So I stand by my point.

D&D 5E Best Way to Challenge this Sorcadin, without high level spells

Says you. It’s simple. In my games when shield is used on AC 20+ characters, a conversation is had. It doesn’t happen again. Problem solved. It amazes me that more seemingly irreconcilable problems don’t get solved with an honest conversation. So instead DMs contort themselves into a pretzel...

When it’s used on a character with AC 15-16 like it was originally intended for.

D&D 5E Best Way to Challenge this Sorcadin, without high level spells

Nothing is part of the game world if it’s agreed it isn’t. Though I prefer a soft cap. Don’t abuse shield and I won’t ban it, or ask you to retire your character. Silvery barbs is just too good. Luckily most people haven’t read Strixhaven.

Ah yes, they changed magic initiate for the playtest. We’ve been on playtest rules for a while. Only a small change but a quality of life one.
