D&D General March Madness (D&D Classes) 2024 - Scores and Discussion

Rogue for the win. I'm going to pretend that 'rogue' is the Thief/Acrobat and nobody will convince me different.

D&D 1E AD&D players and referees, what do you think of ascending AC?

I never had a problem with THAC0, but it's nigh impossible to explain to newer players.

D&D General "March Madness" - Let's Rank The D&D Classes

Looks like the fighter is going to steamroll the poor swordmage if we don't do something to improve its board position. So, I'm moving my cavalier vote to swordmage unless more votes come in for the thief/acrobat. I'd prefer to support an AD&D-exclusive class if I can but right now the...

D&D General "March Madness" - Let's Rank The D&D Classes

I'd like to write in the Cavalier from Unearthed Arcana.

The Pumpkin Pie Spice RPG Contest Discussion Thread

Here's mine, a cursed magic item for B/X D&D. Cursed Pumpkin Pie Spice (Miscellaneous Magic Item, Cursed) This magical mixture of ginger, cinnamon, allspice, clove, and nutmeg smells irresistably sweet. It's typically found in a small metal container about the size and shape of a tinderbox...

    How To Do Wildshape

I prefer Wildshape to be a family of spells, more than any of the other options I have seen so far anyway. It wouldn't be that hard to translate the ability into spells even under the 3.5E/Pathfinder rules, in fact. Wildshape becomes available to druids at 5th level, the same level that she...

    D&D 5E D&D Next Ability Scores

I voted "Fixed" because it seems like the most reliable way to fix the two biggest issues I have with the newer editions of the game: (1) the player expectation of high ability scores, and (2) unbalanced math at higher levels. Roll and be done with it.

    Specialist Fighters

Or to put it another way, which would you rather have in a gun fight: a bolt-action rifle and 20 rounds, or an automatic handgun that never jams and never needs reloading?

    "Hit Points" Discussion Flowchart

Nice. I'd XP you if I could. Po-tay-toe, po-tah-toe. The flow chart works either way.

D&D 5E Do We Need Another "Damage On A Miss" Poll?

There is a "magnetic pole" joke in here somewhere, I just know it...

    The "Smell Test"

For the most part it smells good. But I'm getting a sardine-like aroma from the at-will spells, high hit point values, and damage-no-matter-what stuff.

In the heat of battle, is hit point loss a wound?

We are asking the wrong question. What we should be asking is: should the DM subtract hit points from a target regardless of the attack roll result?
