How happy are you with your regular ruleset?

Are you trying to seduce me? Lure me away from my happy marriage to Savage Worlds? Even if I was willing to throw all of that away, what kind of a relationship could I build with another game system knowing that I'm a cheater and you cheated with me?

D&D General Effect of Druids on Scientific Knowledge in your Campaign?

I think D&D encouraged that kind of thinking with the divide between arcane and divine magic. Back in the day, magic-users studied magic, learning from books, and clerics just prayed and received their spells that way. It's a dichotomy that is less noticable with new arcane classes like the...

D&D General D&D Red Box: Who Is The Warrior?

I kept hearing about WotC making some old character who was a man into a woman but I didn't know what anyone was talking about until this thread. I'm not really outraged because I'm not in the market for pre-painted miniatures. If I was going to purchase it for nostalgia, I probably wouldn't...

D&D General Effect of Druids on Scientific Knowledge in your Campaign?

I prefer D&D fantasy settings where science really isn't a thing. Or at the very least settings where the scientific method isn't a thing. So I don't really have druids, or anyone else, classify animals into kingdom, phylum, class, family, genus, and species. Did I miss one? I really feel...

The official EN World puppy/doggo thread

I'm sorry to report that after 18 years of being the best dog ever, our beloved Buddy has passed. He hadn't really been his fun loving self for quite a while, and we had to make the difficult decision to have the vet put him down. On his way to the vet a little of the old Buddy was visible as...

"The term 'GNS' is moronic and annoying" – well this should be an interesting interview

Where's @Snarf Zagyg when you need him? This seems right up his alley.

D&D 5E Should the Paladin be changed into a more generic half-caster magic knight?

Is D&D supposed to be super generic or is it supposed to have an identity of some sort? There are aspects of old school Paladins I miss but I can live with the 5th edition version. I much prefer sticking with the Paladin as a divine warrior of sorts.

Looking for a Cyberpunk Genre Game

We didn't have a Nomad among my group of players, but they were just like, "Hey, let's steal a car. We're criminals!" Given the way the economy works, that you can sell used item for the full price it's listed as in the book, it makes more sense to be a car thief than it does to be an edge...

What are your "dumbest" TTRPG costs

I made a concerted effort to avoid making stupid RPG purchases starting a few years ago. It was a practical decision to avoid purchasing RPG books for games I didn't have a reasonable expectation of playing. It hasn't been 100% effective of course, I have several Modiphius Conan books I still...

Looking for a Cyberpunk Genre Game

The rules were a major point of contention for me and my players. Friday Night Firefight from 2020 needed some work, but what they ended up with in Red wasn't it.

Looking for a Cyberpunk Genre Game

I've got a physical copy of Cyberpunk 2020 and (legal) digital copies of pretty much the entire 2020 library. And, boy, was I surprised to find they published far fewer 2020 books than I remembered. I'll check out Modos 2, thanks. You end up in a funnny place when you're trying to maintain...

What adventure module have you pillaged the most without using the main plot?

The Ryoko Owari - City of Lies boxed set for Legend of the Five Rings. The main adventure has to do with opium production but there are so many little adventure ideas in the set that you can ignore the primary plot for quite a while. I've used the little adventure ideas for all sorts of L5R...

At My Most Burned-Out in 35 Years

You need a break, @Retreater. You should really cut back on the amount of work you're doing, maybe the amount of gaming you're doing, and maybe consider gaming with different people. Many of the problems you discuss are typical DM problems but taken to an extreme degree. I run a Savage Worlds...

D&D General D&D "influencers" need to actively acknowledge other games.

I don't know if I've ever seen a reviewer compare a game to D&D. In his YouTube series about Call of Cthulhu, Seth Skorkowsky does compare and contrast against D&D in his first video on character generation. He mentions that CoC doesn't use a leveling system like you see in D&D, so characters...
