Absolutely understand. I have never been very good at character optimisation because I like to cover my bases. That said, PbP is slow. It can take months to complete an encounter, and years to level. So keep in mind your L3 dip into Paladin. But build something you can play, and enjoy, now. thotd

I would say play what you want. Then play to see what happens. We may all die horribly. But better to have played and lost etcetera ... That said, I think an urbane bard and socially inept ranger makes a good combination. Each has a niche. It also offers the potential of a yin/yang, love/hate...
