D&D Movie/TV Chris Pine tells Gamesradar+ he's "pretty confident" Honor Among Thieves sequel will happen

The biggest problem for Honor Amongst Thieves is that it opened five days before The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Without that it could have built a long tail on positive word of mouth, like Elemental did. But Mario was one of the biggest movies of the year and dominated for weeks, so HAT just got snuffed out and shuffled off to streaming quickly. Where it has, as people keep pointing out, done very well.
It was also preceded by John Wick 4 just a week earlier, further squeezing it between two big movie releases.

A direct sequel would seem to be related to Xenk or Sas Tam. Every other thread seems to be tied off
The kid has every reason to go adventuring, the sorcerer still has a ton of room for growth and for personal goals that can create conflict and drive adventure, and the Druid was barely explored beyond doing while shape and liking sorcerer kid when he’s confident but not when he’s a mopey whiner.

Absolutely.

Those aren't dependent on a plot thread

Yeah, I think Szaz should be the “looming” villain - a Voldemort/Thanos sort of threat where the characters aren’t directly facing him, but running across his sub bosses /minions and his wider plots.
I'm not sure we should take Thanos as a rule that says "looming threats" work over time. It's a singular example and post Endgame MCU has not suggested ongoing success with the model.

You don't need an ongoing threat or story. Just make each film good.
