D&D Movie/TV D&D 2 is possibility still

Hasbro has been trying very hard to jump into monitization of the brand outside the TTRPG. For the D&D movie they needed a big draw, especially with the stigma of the earlier D&D movies, and they definitely want to turn the brand and IP into Marvel.

Sorry, with everything we know about why they were doing it I must disagree that a smaller, lower budget, less blockbuster movie would not have met their goals, and therefore probably would not have been made.

I think people are burning out on big, flashy movies that focus on how cool the movie looks. They assume that the more special effects there are, the less attention will be paid to actual plot and character. In many cases, they're right.

But my opinion, or yours for that matter, and $5 might buy me a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

Studios always want to spend less money on the sequel.
I mean I always want to spend less....but as far as I know most sequels cost more than the original movie, not less.

Sequels are also generally expected to be less profitable than the original.

I think the movie was good for the profesional careers of the main actors. It is not only the money, but the new doors may be opened thanks the popularity of this movie.

Chloe Coleman, the actress who played Kira, Edgin's daughter, was born in December 2008. Then now she is 14y in this month, but she may be almost adult when the sequel started to be filmed.

If the monsters need more budget, here Hasbro has got a good reason to pay the FXs: more monsters in the movie are more merchandising to be sold.

I wouldn't be too surprised if an extremely cute faeerie dragon appears as monster pet to sell toys.

Some new characters could be showed working like a spin-off hidden pilot episode.

* I don't know if the last technology of FXs can help to save money.

* Even if there are possibilities of a sequel, the productions are stooped or blocked by the strikes. Let's hope more time for screenwritters could help to create a better plot.

* An option could be two groups, our friends from the first movie, and a second squad with their own stories.

yes, and yet they were not impressed

Robbins [Paramount CEO] isn’t abandoning the idea of more “Dungeons & Dragons,” though if there’s a sequel, he says, “We’ve got to figure out a way to make it for less.” is not showing any signs of being impressed

Perhaps impressed was the wrong word, see potential is a better one, because of a set of circumstances beyond its control, Corona and an overfilled movie slate and the ghosts of D&D movies passed, and because while its box office was not what they would have liked, it made up for it at VoD, Streaming, Steelbook, and merch.

Plus Hasbro shields Paramount so Paramount is willing to over look a few movies with disappointing box offices, look at GI Joe.

I think you're right to say that's not "impressed", but it's also clearly not disinterested. For them to be seeing the movie make a loss but still even considering continuing the franchise suggests they think there's significant potential there. But yeah not the point of doubling down or throwing good money after bad.
